An Argentinian Take on Musical Fusion

Elizabeth Paul

San Telmo Lounge, originating in Argentina, is a fusion of tango, jazz and electronic music. With Martin Delgado on guitar, Pablo Gaitán on the bandoneón (the cousin of the accordian, common in Argentina), Lucas Polichiso on keyboards and Maxi Natalutti on the violin, San Telmo Lounge creates an imaginative sound that is unprecedented.

Through mastery of their respective instruments, STL has managed to integrate jazz, tango, electronic music, and rock. On STL's first full album titled "Madrugada en Backcelonia," they demonstrate how countless genres can feed into the classic tango form, without ever falling into cliche. The stark contrast between the genres creates a captivating sound with a powerful atmosphere. The album contains original songs as well as new renditions of tango classics.

STL is the leader of the electrotango movement in Argentina, and after signing with their record label ESPA, their music has spread internationally. Check out their website at www.santelmolounge.com.ar to hear their music, watch their video, and to find out more information.
