Video: Create, Unify, Uplift!

In tune with the mission of supporting disenfranchised artists, Brownscape is sponsoring an amazing benefit taking place in the multicultural Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. This event will be held on November 3rd from 5-11pm, in the local venue named Serie 56.

Local artists of this community have long felt that there has been a thriving underground culture of artists and musicians of all varieties, but few opportunites to expose their work to the public at large (due to among other reasons, lack of venues to showcase). As the community continues to grow, and change, local art has not yet found its place. For this reason Gregory Nunez, and Brownscape’s own Mery Diaz, both members of  The Kiddos, began a collaboration  with other local artists and members of the community to create what will be known as the Washington Heights Community Arts Project. This effort, which is projected to take place in Spring 2007, will provide an opportunity to neighborhood residents, artists and non-artists alike, to participate in a collaborative multimedia project. More specifically it will be a union of photography, collages, video, and music into one major work of art. The mission here is to have an event where artists will be exposed, non-artists can interact and create, and thus influence what will hopefully be an everyday public culture of art in the Heights.

As the project creators seek grants to fund this major project, they will also be hosting a benefit this coming November in order to ensure this takes place. The Benefit Arts Concert will showcase a variety of local artist and musicians, and other multimedia creators. This event will feature three bands: The Kiddos, Three Second Delay, and Bazooka Falcon, A collection of  traditional and multimedia art from 8 artists in the community, a 5-minute trailer of Made in India?, Brownscape Productions fundraiser video for Washington Heights Community Arts Project, DJ Lopez, and spoken word artist among other varieties. The ticket cost for this event is only $7, which affords you entrance and a raffle ticket for items (more tickets can be purchased at the event). The organizers of the benefit felt that admission should be affordable to all members of the community who wish to attend.

Please support this wonderful endeavor. Make sure to watch the fundraiser video! If you’d like more information about the event, time, and location please see our Get it To Go sections of this newsletter. You can also email Mery Diaz at mery@brownscapeprod.com or visit the following links:
